Readercon 25, July 10-13 – Burlington, Massachusetts

by | February 26, 2014

Devoted to speculative and imaginative literature, Readercon is an annual convention for readers to connect with over a hundred different writers of the fantasy, science fiction, horror, and slipstream genres.

The 2014 convention will be hosted at the Burlington Marriott, in Burlington, Massachusetts July 10-13. The Guests of Honor include Andrea Hairston and Kit Reed, with the memorial Guest of Honor being Mary Shelley.

Early registration is currently open, and will close on June 15, 2014, costing $65 USD per ticket. Unlike other conventions, the Thursday evening program is free and open for public attendance.

Readercon focuses on the readers and writers of the genre, departing from standard science fiction and fantasy conventions in several ways. First, Readercon doesn’t include an art show, something other conventions tend to have. In addition to this, cosplay (roleplaying in costume) isn’t encouraged, nor is gaming.

In short, Readercon focuses exclusively on the written word and the relationship between writers and readers.

What Readercon does have is a large bookshop dedicated to new and used titles, as well as rare books, collectibles, and magazines.

It’s a lovely con, with really great panels and access to the writers. I’m thrilled to be on the program again, for the second time. I don’t know what panels I’ll be on, but judging by last year, they’ll be varied and interesting. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend it.
